Private / In-Person Guitar Lessons in LA & San Fernando Valley
Hey! I’m Gaetano (guy-TAN-oh) or just “Guy” to most of my students. I’ve been obsessed with guitar since I was 11. I grew up playing in bands in my hometown, Baltimore, MD, graduated from the University of Maryland, and came to LA in 2014 to attend Musicians Institute, graduating in 2016 with a Certificate in Guitar Performance. Living in LA is incredible: I get to play with some of the most talented musicians in the country, both live and in the studio, and every day I get to watch my students discover new music, master techniques, and gain self-confidence.
I’m in my element when I’m teaching. I love figuring out exactly what my students need in order to learn, have fun, and stay motivated. A lesson could be learning how to play a favorite song, writing something original, or digging into the theory and concepts that make music interesting. I’ve taken the best ideas from my own instructors, core concepts from formal music education, and drawn on my own teaching experience to develop The Gaetano Method, a simple 3-step process that helps new and experienced players develop their skill and knowledge as fast as possible, in a flexible ‘tailored-to-you’ framework.

Learn the fundamentals of music—skills that can be applied to any instrument and musical situation and taken with you wherever you decide to go with your music education: rhythm, note reading, chord chart reading, theory.
Develop your ear and fine motor skills—learn to recognize different chord qualities and harmonies in order to become a better player and listener; learn strumming and picking patterns that will develop your playing and make you a more precise and coordinated musician Have fun learning songs you know and love so that you stay motivated and make continued progress.
Fix holes in your playing and style of study: learn more about theory and scales in order to better understand how and why your favorite songs work; improve the technical elements of guitar playing in order to become a better picker, strummer, and just more effective player overall.
If you’ve never studied music before, don’t be intimidated: we’ll start with the basics, never move any faster than you’re comfortable with, and get you playing actual songs (not just drills) right off the bat; feel free to delve only as deep you care to where theory and technical details are concerned.
“Gaetano has made learning and playing the guitar exciting and accessible throughout every stage of my development as a player, tailoring every lesson to what I want to work on and breaking complicated theory and concepts down into words I can understand.”
“Gaetano has been an amazing guitar instructor to our son for the past three years, and we can’t recommend him more highly. His lessons are beginner friendly and also have great variety, mixing musical theory with exercises and guitar standards. Gaetano is always thoughtful and patient, and lets students learn at their own pace while also encouraging them to push harder. It’s been great to see our son’s progress in guitar, and we can’t thank Gaetano enough!”
“Gaetano is wonderful! He’s been teaching our 3 kids guitar the past 4 years and he’s such a great instructor. His skill and knowledge of music is vast and his patience and understanding is perfect for our kids. We consider him part of the family! Thanks Gaetano!”
